I curated this gallery of child elegies, of which Anne Bradstreet was the informal “founder” of, for my final project in an American poetry class during my undergraduate English studies at UCLA. It is interesting to note the role that female writers were appropriated – and why this type of writing was often “gifted” to females. Though the male-written elegies are decidedly fewer in this project, they are a very different sort of elegy, one that is perhaps severed from the innate tie between women and death.
